AsalamuAlaikum
Although the Burda poem has great praises about our beloved Prophet SAWS, it also unfortunately has verses of Shirk -- verses in which things are attributed to Prophet Muhammad SAWS that should be and are attributes of Allah SWT. Find out more here, explained by Sheikh Abu Ammar who earned a degree in Aqeedah (faith) from Medina University:
http://forums.almaghrib.org/showthr...ighlight=burdah
If the link does not work, you can go to www.almaghrib.org and go to the forums and search "burdah" for the thread inshaAllah. My intention is soley to please Allah by helping my brothers/sisters in Islam. I really hope I dont offend anyone. And I pray that Allah guides us all and keeps us on the straight path. Eid Kareem!

As-salam-alai-kum Brothers...
ALHAMDOLILLAH, By the grace of ALLAH, no Sunni would have such a thought as our so called 'Mr. Anonymous' here has. That`s because all who are in favour of 'Mr. Anonymous' and himself ofcourse, have not really been fortunate enough to feel the mystical and spiritual essence that`s present in the 'Qasida Burda'. It`s about how much you love Prophet Muhammed (PBUH), not about pointing out mistakes in Imam Al-Busiri`s heartfelt poetry..
May ALLAH help our non-sunni (Wahabbi, etc, etc) brothers understand that they won`t be true followers of Islam unless and until they love Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) more than their parents or themselves or anyone else..
I would advice them to atleast try and praise Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) instead of giving out comments that should stay just whispers...
and next time... before giving out a comment.. do type in your name.. the name 'Anonymous' can be taken for anyone... and the visitors of this website can`t rely on just 'Anyone'...
May ALLAH have mercy on mankind...
Salam-alai-kum...
Burda is one of the greatest Islamic poetry works ever completed. Thos who insult the Prophet Muhammad (saws) such as Anonymous are not Muslims. For all you Wahabbi and Al Qa'ida, learn the menaing of the burdah before you rot in hell by blowing yourselves up.
I agree with "Mr Anonymous" and although I love the poem very much and I'm sure it wasn't intended to be shirk, it is true that some of the lines do constitute as shirk. The prophet (saw) would always warn others of excessive praise of him and I feel that when we are careful of how we praise him then we show we are following his sunnah and that in and of itself is the highest form of praise... following the sunnah. As sunni muslims you should all understand that in expressing our love for our beloved prophet (saw) we must be careful not to attribute any of the attributes of allah (swt) in the process... something i'm sure he would not approve of. If you would like to listen or read poetry praising the prophet (saw) then you should refer to the poetry of imam shafi'i and other well respected ulema... there's is just as praiseworthy and you can be sure that there is no shirk in it.
Masha Allah at what aishya has said.
Indeed the best way to show your love to the Prophet is to follow in his steps and obey him.
Think in simpler terms...our parents. We could praise them and say we love them all night and day, but if that's our only form of love then it is hollow.
Obviously, the opposite extreme of completely removing loving words and actions while being entirely obedient wouldn't be the best means either.
Moderation is the Sunnah.
Obey the Prophet (pbuh). And speak highly of him.
I've heard various arguments for and against the Burdah poem. Many of the issues of shirk people attribute to poor translation into other languages. They also state that it was accepted by numerous classical scholars and even in the Masjid an-Nabawi (and it was).
It has been removed from the Prophet's Masjid (pbuh) in recent times, however.
But yeah, actions speak louder than words. And as aishya reminds us, the Prophet himself (pbuh) warned us about excessive praise. And the Burdah (at least in translation) seems to be that.
Assalam U alaikum
Subhanallah! I fully support what "Anonymous" says about Burdah. Unfortunately, the person by the name of "sunni" does not. To say that I am a Sunni and I do love the poetry in Burdah, is but a mere fact; the more crucial thing to understand is that in Burdah, there are some verses that contribute to shirk. people need to understand that there are some verses in Burdah that should not be meant for prasing Prophet Muhammad SAW; these particular verses should be meant for the prase of ALLAH SubhanaWatallah. Yes, Burdah is meant fot the praise of the prophet SAW. But it takes the praise so far that it makes the meaning shirk. may Allah, forgive me if I am wrong, but honestly speaking, I do NOT think that the Prophet SAW would like it if we praised him exessively, as is done in Burdah. Check the meaings out if you are not sure!!!!
To comment further on what "sunni" said about Burdah. I completely acknowledge the fact that we are all brothers and sisters and we should not fight wihtout a reason. But this is no trivial matter; we must understand whether Burdah is shirk or if it is not. I am a sunni and yet i beelive that Burdah to some extent is shirk. Sunni, take into account of what I said earlier about excessively praising the prophet SAW as is done in Burdah. It is not only about loving the prophet SAW, but it is also about the excessive praise that is incorporated inot the poem about prophet SAW that makes it shirk. Indeed, jsut b/c I am a sunni, that does not mean that I SHOULD go with Burdah. Please keep this in mind.
Walaikum as salaam and may Allah guide your hearts
Raza Younis and Imad Baig should fear Allah (SWT) and repent for insulting other sunni Muslims! How evil and vulgar it is for people to slander Sheikh Wahhab and call people that take knowledge from his a "wahhabi" and as non-sunni. This is slander and you will be held accountable for what you said.
Mashallah, sister aishya has done a great job in responding to the slander.
Cool blog, interesting information... Keep it UP film editing schools
Too bad about the English: even his Arabic is not up to scratch! In sha' Allah, I am to remedy that, upon my own blog.
AsalamuAlaikum,
I do not believe that the Burda contains any shirk in it. how ever i am also saddened to see how immature some people are when they debate a subject. If you are going to disagree with someone,do so respectfully.Im not saying do not disagree at all because that is impossible, but think twice before you condemn someone to hell or else you can assure yourself of joining them..now back to the subject of the Burda, can someone please copy and paste the lines they see as "shirk" so that we can better understand why they are saying that?
and to the first anonymous person to respond to this thread, almaghrib is a wahhabi organization so their take on the burda is going be very negative. and the reason the burda was taken off the walls in Masjid An-Nabi is because the wahhabis are in control of the masjid and everything they easily call things haraam, bidaa or shirk without any real backing. do you really think all the other caretakers of such a sacred place would allow it to be filled with shirk??

Salaam aliukum wa rahmatullah,
Jaza'kAllah khier brothers and sisters. There is a lot of talk but not very much specifics rather than just claims.
Let me again say that this author is a great linguist who wrote a very nice poem, however it does contain some aspects of shirk. Now, let me give only a dew examples for the sake of our discussion:
(1) He swears by the moon, Muslims are to swear only by Allah, His Names, His Attributes, and His actions.
(2) Our Rasool, peace be upon him, warned against excessive praise, and this poem contains much praise.
(3) Poem says to seek refuge with our Rasool, peace be upon him, on the Day and that on that Day (judgement) the author only needs Rasool, rather than Allah ta'ala.
(4) The author says that he ought to be saved because his name is Muhammad, like the Prophet, peace be upon him.
(5) The author says there are glad tidings to those who snif or touch the dirt of Rasooli's grave, peace be upon him, which does not have an authentic source in Islam to say.
Jaza'kAllah khier
wa'salaam
assalamualaikom,
dear all, the sunni said all this due his love for our Beloved. On the day of judgement we will depend on the Prophets Intercession and for this there are no question marks as Allah says in the Quran " O BELOVED ASK FOR FORGIVENESS OF THE SINS OF THE BELIEVING MEN & WOMEN". (Quran 19-47)
"Leave what the Christians have said about their Prophet!
And then affirm what you will in praise, and do so with excellence"
As long as the wrongful claims of partnership with God or other forms of deification are cast firmly aside, since they are unthinkable and against the very foundation of religion, then after such negation of there being any God but Allah, there is unlimited room for praise and love for the Prophet
There is no such thing as “over-exaggeration”, since how can the praise be exaggerated for one whose rank is so great that it can never be known by other than his own Creator. No words of praise, no depth of love can be too much, since as Hassan ibn Thabit said, words to not praise him , rather his mention makes the words praiseworthy. And man’s love for his own soul and his own desires sees no end in sight, how many a man sells his Hereafter for his desires, and how many a man abandons this worldly life to safeguard his soul’s eternal life? How then, if true belief is loving the Prophet Muhammad more than one’s own soul, can anyone attempt to place limits on that love?
